Aug 09, 2012 (newstodate): The modernization and reconstruction of Belgorod International Airport, in the western part of Russia, is well underway and will be completed by the end of 2012.
The reconstruction works includes modernization of the airport's passenger terminal to lift the passenger handling capacity to 450 per hour, and the airport's 2,300m runway now extended to 2,500m has been equipped with new a lighting system and ILS navaid, and construction of a new cargo terminal is also comprised by the project.
Four Russian carrier currently operate at the regionally owned airport that will now be in a better position to seek international traffic by western operators as well.
