Aug 08, 2012 (newstodate): Swedish regional airport Orebro is seeing its cargo traffic down in 2012.
-The commercial ad-hoc charters that are important to Orebro Airport have been fewer in 2012, but our traffic by DHL remains at a high level and growing, says Haakan Nilsson, Orebro Airport cargo manager.
-We did, however, see a number of relief flights for South Sudan in July, and traffic by military contracts have also been significant. But this is not to downplay the fact that we have experienced a decline in operations and cargo volumes during the first half of this year.
-Anyway we remain confident of our future in the air cargo industry, and work is progressing on the construction of a new 3,000 sq m cargo terminal that will be commissioned in November 2012.
-Also we are actively seeking to attract cargo operators to Orebro Airport - but that is of course not an easy project in times of general decline in the industry and certainly a decrease in Sweden's airfreight volumes, says Mr Nilsson.
Starting from September 19, 2011, DHL Express has been operating five weekly Boeing 737-330F flights from Brussels to Copenhagen via Orebro and returning from Orebro to Brussels via Copenhagen, making Orebro its fourth Swedish gateway.
