Aug 16, 2012 (newstodate): The decision by Asiana to move the freighter operation from Gothenburg in Sweden to Oslo in Norway is good news for the market.
Effective from September 7, 2012, the carrier will start operating its twice-weekly Boeing 747-400F freighter coming in from Frankfurt into Oslo Gardermoen Airport for its onward flight to Incheon, South Korea.
The move will not, however, bring new opportunities for Norway's seafood exporters.
-The allotment on the aircraft dedicated to Norway is big - but there will be no free capacity available, says an industry source.
-The freighter at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport is already filled with Norwegian seafood, primarily fresh salmon, trucked in from Norway. So Norwegian exporters already using the Asiana service at Gothenburg will get an improved service with the online freighter flights, while no extra capacity will be available for new customers, he says.
Since July 2007, Asiana Cargo has been online at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport, starting out with one weekly call on the return flight from Vienna to Incheon, South Korea, adding a second flight from September 12, 2008, and now flying from Frankfurt on the route to Korea.
Asiana pursues a mix of own cargo sales and GSA sales, with the Norwegian seafood export as its own portfolio.
