Aug 01, 2012 (newstodate): Only scant news have appeared to prove that the project for establishing a new Lithuanian carrier is still alive.
But at least an entity named Air Vilnius Group has registered a carrier named Air Lituanica in early June, and talks have reportedly been held between the project group and potential investors from Scandinavia and Iceland, with negotiations to be concluded by mid-October 2012.
If everything goes according to plans, Air Lituanica will start business from Spring 2013 with routes to six European destinations and plans for flights to Russia and Ukraine as well.
Driving the project is the mayor of Vilnius, Arturas Zuokas who is known to be in business contact with Thorsteinn Gudnason, since 2009 working on a similar project to set up a Lithuanian carrier named Lithuania Express in the wake of the former Lithuanian national carrier flyLAL's bankruptcy in early 2009.
