Aug 30, 2012 (newstodate): A major redevelopment program lies ahead for Moscow's Vnukovo International Airport.
Part of the project to be launched soon is completion of the extension of Runway 1 from 3,000 to 3,500m including new lighting equipment and water drainage systems.
Two new taxiways will also be constructed as well a new fire and rescue station.
Annual passenger volumes through the airport are expected to rise from 51 mio in 2011 to 90 mio by 2020, driving the needs for better utilization of resources.
A Russian company, Transstroymekhanisatsiya has been selected by the state to undertake the works.
