Aug 02, 2012 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo is quite satisfied with its performance in the Nordic markets so far into 2012.
-Until and including week 29 we saw quite good results in all four Nordic markets. We had actually expected week 29 to be marked by the seasonal slow-down but this turned out not to be the case, says Alexander Kohnen, Lufthansa Cargo director Nordics and Baltics.
-Now we are in the usual slack summer season, and we do not expect things to catch up again before around week 34. But at least we can say that July was surprisingly stable for Lufthansa Cargo.
-While volumes are down, this does not reflect on rates. The bulk of our traffic is contained within longer term contracts with forwarders, so the seasonal ups and downs in volumes do not translate into vacillating airfreight rates.
In June 2012, the latest month reported by IATA CASS, Lufthansa Cargo generated 504 tonnes of export cargo in the Danish market, 696 tonnes in Norway, 854 tonnes in Sweden and 368 tonnes in Finland.
This corresponded to a market share at 7.5 in the Danish IATA market, 8.7 in Norway, 11.3 in Sweden, and 10.7 in Finland.
