Aug 31, 2012 (newstodate): The Anglo-Swedish regional cargo airline, West Atlantic is pinning its future on a growing fleet of Boeing 737 converted freighters.
West Atlantic saw the converted A320 freighter as a key to opening new windows of opportunity, but with the cancellation of the program the company had to re-think its strategy.
Nor surprisingly, the remaining alternative is the Boeing 737-300 or Boeing 737-400 aircraft with low residual values and abundance in the market as airlines phase out the less fuel-efficient aircraft in favor or newer options.
West Atlantic already operates two Boeing 737-300F aircraft and will build up a fleet of six or seven aircraft over the next few years, preferably the larger-capacity Boeing 737-400F converted freighter.
West Atlantic also operates the world's largest fleet of ATP freighters totaling 42 aircraft, as well as two ATR-72, two CRJ200LR, and two Lockheed Electra freighters.
