Aug 03, 2012 (newstodate): Italian support may prove the savior for Mostar Airport, in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Since October 2009, the airport has no scheduled air traffic, but traffic loads on charter flights, primarily from Italy, are booming in 2012.
In July 2012, a consortium of Italian airports and the Italian state announced plans to place a bid on Mostar Airport, promising to infuse fresh capital to expand and upgrade the current airport infrastructure.
Now the Italian efforts may be boosted also by an airline, Mistral Air - a cargo and charter passenger airline based in Rome, Italy.
The director of Mistral Air has met in Mostar with airport authorities to discuss potentials for a partnership and the opening of regular, scheduled flights between Mostar and Italian destinations, according to sources in the industry.
The airport has a 2,400 m runway and can accept aircraft up to 200 tonnes of MTOW.
