Aug 09, 2012 (newstodate): In July, Latvia's Riga Airport continued its dynamic growth in cargo volumes in 2012.
Starting from April 2012, Riga Airport became a major transit point for military uplift by ISAF supporting the troops in Afghanistan - and it has boosted volumes through the airport.
A total of 2,426 tonnes of cargo was handled at Riga Airport in July, an increase by 120.3 percent, y-o-y.
Of the total volume 1,984 tonnes was air cargo, up 190 percent, while 441 tonnes was mail shipments, also up 5.5 percent, y-o-y.
During January-July 2012, the airport handled a total of 19,842 tonnes of cargo and mail - an increase by 183 percent over the same period in 2011.
