Aug 08, 2012 (newstodate): In July 2012, Finnair Cargo's transported tonnage was down by 6.9 percent,y-o-y, while the capacity was reduced by 8,7 percent due to the adjusted freighter capacity on Asian routes.
-The Seoul freighter route was suspended until further notice on July 8, 2012, and this, together with the earlier termination of the Shanghai freighter operations in March 2012, is the underlying factor for the reduction in figures, says Juha Jarvinen, Finnair Cargo Managing Director since May 14, 2012.
-The freighter services were adjusted in order to balance the capacity with temporarily reduced demand on traffic between Asia and Europe. Both routes are however still served with Finnair belly capacity, offering six weekly flights to Seoul and daily flights to Shanghai.
-Our remaining long-haul freighter routes to New York, Hong Kong and Mumbai have continued their positive development over the past months. We are also very happy with our position as the largest cargo carrier in volumes in the Nordic region, with top positions in Finland and Norway.
-All Scandinavian countries are part of our home market for long-haul airfreight, and we are extremely pleased to see stable and fast growth also in Denmark, where we have more than tripled our sales during the past 12 months.
-Finnair Cargo's 12th Asian destination, Chongqing opened in May 2012, has now started to pick up on cargo traffic, with primary demand from Nordic markets into Western China. Finnair connects Chongqing to Europe with fast non-stop flights four times per week, says Mr Jarvinen.
