Aug 10, 2012 (newstodate): Airfreight volumes are rising in 2012 at Estonia's Tallinn Airport - but growth slowed over the last two months.
In January-July 2012, the airport handled a total of 11,805 tonnes of cargo and mail, an increase by 35.7 percent, y-o-y.
But in both June and July volumes dropped by 19 and 14.6 percent to 1,338 and 1,236 tonnes, respectively.
In both cases, the reason was a decrease in cargo imports, down by 32 and 23.6 percent, respectively, to 961 and 939 tonnes.
Air cargo export volumes are rather low, but steadily growing over 2011, but still below 20 percent of the total volumes, expect for July when exports reached 21.2 percent.
At Tallinn Airport, the import volumes are primarily airfreight on ULS freighters carrying goods from China via Istanbul destined for the Russian market. And this traffic has been seasonally slowing down during the summer and expected to rise again from autumn.
At the same time efforts are now being made to market the cargo capacity on ULS freighters from Tallinn Airport via Istanbul for transfer to other carriers as requested by the markets in the Nordic and Baltic region.
