Jul 27, 2012 (newstodate): Global airfreight volumes are not exactly booming these years - but Warsaw Chopin Airport emerged from H1 rather unharmed in volumes.
Volumes were down, but only 0.8 percent, y-o-y, to 21,500 tonnes during January-June 2012.
International cargo volumes were down 0.8 percent to 21,100 tonnes, while domestic cargo dropped by 1.4 percent to 324 tonnes during the period.
In the international segment, imports totaling 12,500 tonnes were up 2.4 percent, while exports dipped by five percent to 8,400 tonnes.
In domestic cargo the airport saw incoming cargo growing by 4.4 percent, while outgoing domestic shipments dropped by 3.9 percent, y-o-y.
The airport's total mail volume grew by 4.2 percent, y-o-y, with mail on international flights increasing 6.3 percent.
The most popular cargo destinations were Leipzig with 3,500 tonnes, Cologne 3,300 tonnes, Chicago 1,500 tonnes, New York 1,300 tonnes and Paris with 1,000 tonnes.
The largest cargo carriers at Warsaw Chopin Airport were LOT Polish Airlines lifting 6,400 tonnes, UPS Airlines 5,200 tonnes, European Air Transport 3,400 tonnes, Sprint Air 900 tonnes and Air Contractors 800 tonnes.
