Jul 31, 2012 (newstodate): Work is progressing on the project to develop ex-Tallinn export airfreight on ULS freighters to Istanbul.
ULS operates 35-40 monthly freighters from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Tallinn Airport carrying shipments destined for the Russian market, and the carrier will now capitalize on the space available on the empty return trips from the airport.
-Our headquarter is negotiating with IATA to join CASS as a precondition to enter cooperation with other carriers for onward transportation via Istanbul to the global marketplace, says a company source.
-Several carriers have already shown interest in this cooperation and we hope to be in place before the pre-Christmas traffic peak, he says.
Driving the project in Estonia is Toomas Orukivi, joining ULS from June 2012 after serving as head of cargo at Estonian Air.
Mr Orukivi is to present the business opportunity to forwarders in Lithuania in early August, and similar promotion tours will be made to forwarders in other Baltic and Nordic markets.
