Jul 23, 2012 (newstodate): Cargo volumes continued to climb during the first half of 2012, reaching a total of 10,528 tonnes in January-June.
That corresponded to an increase by 45.2 percent, y-o-y, primarily driven by increasing loads of cargo by ULS freighters from Istanbul to Estonia.
Of the totals, import cargo thus accounted for 8,518 tonnes, rising 44.1 percent, y-o-y.
Exports were also up in H1 by 64.3 percent, y-o-y, to 1,332 tonnes.
June 2012 was, however, an exception to the otherwise strong upward trend, generating 1,296 tonnes of cargo and mail which was a drop by 21.5 percent, y-o-y.
Behind the decline in June was a decline by 34.9 percent, y-o-y, in the airport's import cargo, to 919 tonnes as ULS reportedly suspended a large proportion of the operation at Tallinn, due to be resumed again later this summer.
