Jul 25, 2012 (newstodate): Russia's Yekatarinburg Koltsovo Airport in Sverdlovsk Region has officially opened the first stage of a new large cargo terminal as part of a strategy to become a leading cargo cargo hub.
Now opened is a 19,000 sq m terminal developed by the German company Hochtief Airports and designed as the first step in a project for a large-scale cargo village.
From 2018 till 2022 another 22,000 sq meter of terminal and office buildings will be added aiming at reaching a through-put of 80,000 tonnes of cargo by 2030, compared to the 25,000 tonnes handled by the airport in 2011.
