Jul 24, 2012 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo took its share of the over-all decline in the global airfreight business during this year's H1.
The carrier saw its volumes during the period down by 9.2 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 864,490 tonnes.
Through adjustments to the network and meticulous management of the freighter capacity the company however succeeded in keeping its over-all load factor at 68.4 percent, only 0.7 percentage-points down on the same period last year.
The drop in volumes was especially steep in the Asian/Pacific segment that generated 236,000 tonnes - down 13.1 percent.
European loads were down six percent, The Americas dropped 9.4 percent, and Africa/Middle East declined by 8.1 percent.
Looking into the cargo load factor on the various segments, the Americas and Africa/Middle East saw a decline by four and 1.2 percentage-points, respectively, while load factors in Europe and Asia/Pacific were up by 5.1, and two percentage-points, respectively.
