Jul 25, 2012 (newstodate): Serbia is again raising hopes to regain its Category 1 certification in the FAA Flight Standards Service.
Hopes are pinned on the forthcoming new version of the audit, expected by August 2012.
Serbia was downgraded from Category 1 in 2002 barring any service by a Serbia-registered aircraft carrier into North American airports, and the country has since made several unsuccessful attempts to regain its position that will allow JAT to launch flights on routes to the USA.
Up till the 80'ies, JAT operated flights from the former Yugoslavia to destination in the USA including New York, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit and Los Angeles.
