Jul 23, 2012 (newstodate): The entry into service of the Airbus A319 by Atlantic Airways is showing in the statistics from the Faroe Islands' Vagar Airport.
The new aircraft started its Faroese operations in March 2012, and the monthly cargo is now more than 30 tonnes, with total volumes during the first half of this year reaching 200 tonnes, up 133.8 percent, y-o-y.
Passenger volumes have however increased less significantly, reflecting the limited home market and the sustained need for more promotion of the Faroe Islands in the European tourism market.
Thus the airport handled a total of 96,999 passengers during January-June 2012, up only 3.8 percent despite the significant increase in seats offered.
