Jul 23, 2012 (newstodate): Mostar Airport, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, may be in for a new revival backed by Italian partners.
A consortium of Italian airports and the Italian state plans to place a bid on Mostar Airport, promising to infuse fresh capital to expand and upgrade the current airport infrastructure.
Since October 2009, the airport has no scheduled air traffic, but traffic loads on charter flights, primarily from Italy, are booming in 2012.
Also in the plans to be presented shortly are visions of attracting low-cost traffic to the airport, the country's second-largest.
The airport, 88 percent owned by the city government, was last modernized in 2004 when a project was completed including construction of a new ATC tower with seven controller operator positions as well as one of the latest voice communication systems.
The airport is equipped with a 2,400 m runway and can accept airpcraft up to 200 tonnes of MTOW.
