Jun 15, 2012 (newstodate): Russia's Kurumoch International Airport, in the Volga Region, saw cargo volumes rising in 2011 - but still at low levels.
A total of 4,445 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled at the airport, which was an increase by 11.8 percent, y-o-y.
This was little more than volumes handled in 2006 after which volumes have vacillated at lower levels.
In 2011 the airport started work on construction of a new apron dedicated to the handling of large freighter aircraft including the AN-124 and the Boeing 747.
Despite the low volumes of cargo, the airport still maintains hopes for attracting transfer traffic by international cargo carriers.
