Jun 12, 2012 (newstodate): Poland's Lodz Airport is seeing cargo up in 2012 - probably boosted by the ongoing European football frenzy.
While still limited in size, the airport's cargo volumes during January-May 2012 were 251 tonnes, compared to a flat zero during the same period in 2011.
In total the airport handled 295 tonnes of cargo and mail in 2011, so a record in 2012 is absolutely within reach.
The airport is mostly served by low-cost carriers and charter operators, but SAS is to launch services from Copenhagen to Lodz by the start of this winter's schedule, becoming the first network carrier to operate at the airport.
