Jun 29, 2012 (newstodate): Kazakhstan is reportedly to open up for more competition on its domestic flights.
So far, an annual tender has been opened for rights and obligations to operate the domestic routes, but this system will be cancelled from 2013.
Instead, plans are to allow any Kazakh airline meeting international safety standards and service requirements to fly on any domestic route in an effort to bring in competition and lower air fares.
Nine airlines in Kazakhstan are currently holding an own AOC, the largest of which is Air Astana.
