Jun 14, 2012 (newstodate): Moldova's government is planning to change the ownership structure of Chisinau Airport to a public-private partnership.
As a first move, the ownership of the airport will be changed from state to a private state-owned company.
When this move has been completed, the company will seek new private partners to import new management and investments as a precondition for attracting more traffic to the airport that needs continued modernization.
As a temporary move, the state has frozen further investments in the airport due to lack of funds.
EBRD has supported the development of Chisinau Airport is the preceding stages, including renovation of the airport's 3,590m runway, new ground lighting systems, and renovation of the airport's taxiways and apron area, including implementation of new airfield lighting systems.
In 2011 Chisinau Airport handled a total of 1.1 mio passengers as well as 2.7 tonnes of cargo and mail.
