Jun 06, 2012 (newstodate): For the Lithuanian cargo GSA, Strike Aviation the decision to set up an own office in 2011 at Skopje Airport, Macedonia was a big decision - but timing proved to be a challenge..
Launch customer in Macedonia from the start in September 2011 was the Hungarian carrier Malev that, however, went bankrupt by early February 2012.
-It was certainly a blow losing our launch customer that offered two daily Boeing 737-800 rotations between Macedonia and Hungary, Andrius Antanaitis, JSC Strike Aviation LT General Manager.
-We did consider the future of the new office but decided to stay, and today were are serving the Swiss charter carrier Hello with cargo sales on the route to and from Zurich, and from the start of June 2012 we are adding also Leisure Cargo where different airlines offer flights from Skopje to Zurich, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Dusseldorf.
-Macedonia is a small air cargo market dominated by imports, but business is growing and we are especially focusing on shipments of VALs, perishables and other special cargo. We are firmly located in the country now, and we are looking ahead to signing up with more carriers, says Mr Antanaitis.
