Jun 13, 2012 (newstodate): The Latvian charter and ACMI company SmartLynx is taking delivery of an Airbus A320 aircraft in June 2012.
The new aircraft in the fleet is an Airbus A320 formerly operated by Air Australia, and it will be placed with the Czech company Travel Service for the summer season of 2012.
Based at Riga Airport, SmartLynx Airlines was acquired by the Icelandair Group in 2006, but was put up for sale in 2011 as the Icelandair Group formulated the strategy of returning to core business, and is now purely Latvian-owned after a management buy-out.
Managed by Omar Benediktsson as CEO, the carrier operates a fleet of eight Airbus A320 and two Boeing 767 aircraft used on charter operations and ACMI.
