Jun 07, 2012 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo reports a growth by 15 percent in total cargo volumes carried, compared to May 2011.
A total of 12,267 tonnes was carried in May 2012, including 9,402 tonnes on passenger aircraft, up only 0.4 percent, while loads on freighter operations were up 118.4 percent, y-o-y, to 2,861 tonnes despite the suspension of freighter flights between Helsinki and Shanghai since March 2012.
The important Asian cargo carried on passenger flights remained rather subdued in May 2012, up only modestly by 3.7 percent to 6,811 tonnes, and the North Atlantic loads on passenger flights also grew only 0.5 percent to 700 tonnes.
Finnair's European cargo loads were down by 9.5 percent to 1,713 tonnes.
In January-May 2012, a total of 62,214 tonnes has been carried, up 10.6 percent, y-o-y, mostly driven by loads on freighter operations that grew by 49.8 percent, y-o-y, to 15,394 tonnes or around one-fourth of the total.
Again, the Asian traffic was the driver with 34,154 tonnes out of the 46,706 tonnes carried on the airline's passenger aircraft and up seven percent, y-o-y.
