Jun 08, 2012 (newstodate): Estonian Air may reportedly be in the process of acquiring Copterline - the helicopter service between Tallinn and Helsinki.
Since September 14, 2011, Copterline started out with five rotations on the route on weekdays with one AugustaWestland AW139 helicopter.
Already a few months later, Estonian Air CEO Tero Taskila told newstodate that the carrier was negotiating with Copterline, but did not reach agreement on how to settle the ownership structure of the proposed Joint Venture.
The helicopter service is operating a route between the city centers of Helsinki and Tallinn, thus not providing a spill-over into Finnair's route network by Estonian passengers, which would pose a threat to Estonian Air's own growing European route network.
On the other hand, the helicopter service might provide Finnish travelers with a fast connection into Estonian Air's European network as well as providing incoming passengers with fast transfer to Helsinki.
So far no official announcements have been made by either party, with Estonian media carrying the news on the alleged acquisition.
One indication, however, is that Copterline has posted the news on its facebook-site without further comments on the issue.
