Jun 05, 2012 (newstodate): For Estonian Air, statistics show that the number of flights increased faster than the volume of passengers in May 2012.
A total of 98,439 passengers, up 91.1 percent y-o-y, were transported on 2,192 flights, up 98.9 percent, y-o-y.
The intriguing figure is, however, that the carrier's load factor was up 11.4 percentage-points compared to May 2012.
Normally the load factor will decrease when growth in flights overtakes the growth in passenger volumes.
-The observation is absolutely correct. The equation works only if, and when, we have smaller equipment. We now operate aircraft that are on average 30 percent smaller than was the case in May 2011, says Tero Taskila, Estonian CEO.
-We are happy that we have been able to demonstrate that our business new model works. Now we need to enhance the processes to get back on track as to on-time performance, says Mr Taskila.
The carrier is building up a fleet of Embraer CRJ900 aircraft replacing the Bombardier Dash-8 Q400 and the Boeing 737 aircraft.
