May 09, 2012 (newstodate): Lithuania's Vilnius Airport is soaring in passenger growth, but declining in cargo volumes in 2012.
During the first four months of 2012, passenger volumes have gone up 56 percent, y-o-y, to 551,348, of which 550,769 passengers traveled on international flights.
On the other hand, cargo volumes declined during the same period, down 3.13 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 1,856 tonnes.
Since the start of 2009, Lithuania has been without a national carrier after the demise of flyLAL, traffic being today provided by low-cost carriers not offering cargo space and legacy carriers using small regional aircraft with limited cargo capacity only.
31 European cities in 36 airports will be reached from Vilnius Airport during this summer season.
40 direct regular flights will be operated from Vilnius Airport, with 21 airlines offering regular flights during the summer season.
