May 3, 2012 (newstodate): From July 1, 2012, Swissport will be launching business at Copenhagen Denmark as part of a wider Nordic strategy.
Operations will be opened at the former Novia Cargo Terminal on the airport's eastern premises, left vacant after Spirit Air Cargo Handling's move to facilities immediately adjoining the passenger aircraft apron from March 13, 2012.
-We are now moving equipment into the terminal that already comprises much cargo handling infrastructure, and we are convinced that with some 60 days to go everything will be in place on the opening day, including our IT system that integrates all Swissport stations around the world, says Nils Pries Knudsen, Swissport Snr VP Europe Cargo Services division.
-By opening up cargo handling business at Copenhagen Airport we are aiming not just to take a slice of the existing market, but rather to grow the market by attracting new airline customers to Copenhagen Airport. We will strive to make Copenhagen Airport even more attractive.
-Localizing Swissport at Copenhagen Airport will contribute to raising the awareness among world airlines towards the business opportunities here, and increased competition will highlight this point.
-Once established at Copenhagen Airport we will further analyze the situation in the Danish airfreight market to decide on how best to serve other regions in Denmark. We are already contracting Spirit Air Cargo Handling at Billund Airport to provide us with handling services, and time will show which solution is best suited in the longer term.
-The opening at Copenhagen Airport is the second step by Swissport in the Nordic region where we started passenger handling at Finland's Helsinki Vantaa Airport on December 2011.
-We will certainly go for further expansion in the Nordic region, be it by generic growth or through acquisitions as options emerge, says Mr Pries Knudsen.
