May 7, 2012 (newstodate): Serbia is planning for the conversion of yet another military air base for commercial use.
Close to Belgrade, Batajnica Air Base will be the only airport in Serbia with two asphalted runways, both at 2,500m allowing for use by larger aircraft.
A new ATC tover has been constructed at the air base, and plans are to build up Batajnica Airport as a low-cost alternative to Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, with launch of commercial traffic from 2016.
The airport may also develop a focus on air cargo operations, which would require the construction of cargo terminal infrastructure.
