May 1, 2012 (newstodate): Romania's Mihail Kogalniceanu Airport is to be upgraded, supported by EU funds.
The EU Commission has decided to grant a 40 mio euro loan to Romania, allowing for the upgrading of the Mihail Kogalniceanu Airport in the south-eastern part of the country serving Constanta.
The airport has a 3,4500m runway capable of serving all types of aircraft, including heavy freighter aircraft and is seeing a future role as a hub serving the Europe-Asia cargo traffic.
The airport is now expected to open tenders by September, detailing the project ahead.
