May 16, 2012 (newstodate): Adding three daily Boeing 747-400 freighter operations since the start of April 2012 has left a strong impact on Latvia's Riga Airport airfreight statistic.
From increasing 10 percent to 1,113 tonnes in March 2012, the latest statistics from April 2012 show an increase by 657 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 7,519 tonnes.
The NATO-led Boeing 747-400 freighter operations are included under the line "Other" airlines accounting for 6,514 tonnes in April 2012, compared to 7 tonnes by "Other" airlines in March 2012.
Among the commercial carriers, airBaltic still led the market in April 2012 with 624 tonnes, but now only holding a total market share of eight percent compared to about 50 in the preceding months.
In the first four months of 2012, Riga Airport handled a total of 10,559 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 176.4 percent, y-o-y.
