May 7, 2012 (newstodate): The role of Latvia's Riga Airport as a gateway for supporting NATO's Afghan logistics is growing.
From the start of April 2012, Riga Airport has seen three daily Boeing 747 freighter operations by National Air Cargo and Kalitta Air each lifting some 100 tonnes of equipment and supplies to the ISAF forces.
Now Volga-Dnepr Group's AirBridgeCargo is also active at Riga Airport, lifting another 100 tonnes of food supplies to the ISAF personnel in Afghanistan using Boeing 747 cargo aircraft.
The first flight from Riga, Latvia, to Bagram was operated last week on behalf of American Supreme Food Supply via National Air Cargo.
The perishables cargo arrived in Riga from the United States in refrigerated sea containers and onboard scheduled airline flights.
