May 1, 2012 (newstodate): The opening of Serbia's new commercial airport at Kraljevo-Ladevci has taken a fresh step ahead thanks to a new infusion of capital.
Turkey has promised to invest 10 mio euro in the project that has long suffered from lack of financial funds slowing down the project.
The airport has one 2,200m runway to be extended to 2,750m, a new ATC tower will be built, and operations will be separated between a military and a commercial entity.
Besides passenger traffic to serve the industries in the region, the airport is also expected to appeal to air cargo operators.
Initially, expectations were that the airport would be opening for commercial use already before the end of 2010.
