May 10, 2012 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo Norway loves fresh salmon - but in small bites, preferably..
-We have no choice: Norway's seafood exports dominate the country's airfreight business so we are of course after securing a fair bite of the market, says Christoph Harneid, Lufthansa Cargo Country Manager Norway since October 1, 2011.
-For us what counts is, however, not volumes but yields, so we bid on smaller seafood shipments where time is crucial and booked for destinations where we can offer a special service. Going for larger volumes is out of the question, given the rates that are too low to make sense for Lufthansa Cargo. So the seafood business is attractive, but we take a selective approach.
-Norway is, however, not only seafood. General cargo is important as well, with much activity in the segments of ships spares, IT, equipment for the oil exploration and drilling industry and other commodities. Here rates are better as these operations are more complex and require a high level of sustained reliability by the provider, says Mr Harneid.
