May 3, 2012 (newstodate): Russia is seeking a new revival for Dagestan Airlines that lost its AOC in December 2011.
Based on a decree by the state, ownership of the carrier, based at Uytash Airport in Makhachkala, Dagestan, will now be transferred 100 percent from state to regional government, aiming at opening up for the formation of a JV with a commercial partner that is willing to invest in the carrier's future as well as the modernization of the infrastructure of Yutash Airport.
On December 4, 2010, a Tu-154M from Dagestan Airlines crashed during an emergency landing at Domodedovo International Airport, Moscow, and in November 2011 the airline was also included by the Russian aviation authorities on the list of Russian carriers prohibited from operating into the EU.
Dagestan Airlines has been operating an obsolete fleet of five TU-154 aircraft on routes in Russia, to Sharjah and to Turkey.
