May 8, 2012 (newstodate): Cargo loads on Finnair's passenger and freighter aircraft were rising at modest levels in April 2012.
A total of 12,055 tonnes of cargo was transported in April 2012, an increase by 8.4 percent, y-o-y.
Of the total loads, 9,800 tonnes were carried on Finnair's passenger aircraft, an increase by 6.1 percent, and 2,233 tonnes were lifted by freighters, up 18.9 percent, y-o-y.
As usual, the Asian traffic is by far the main source of cargo volumes, contributing 7,249 tonnes, up 12.1 percent, of belly cargo in addition to most of the freighter loads.
Both European, North Atlantic and domestic belly cargo loads were, however, declining in April 2012.
For the first four months of this year, Finnair has lifted a total of 49,947 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 9.6 percent, y-o-y, including 37,304 tonnes on passenger flights and 12,533 tonnes on freighter operations, increasing 2.5 and 39.8 percent, respectively, compared to April 2011.
The increase by 18.9 percent in April 2012 of volumes on freighter operations comes despite the suspension of the Finnair's freighter flights to Shanghai since the start of the month that has not been compensated by increased frequencies on the carrier's other freighter routes.
