May 16, 2012 (newstodate): The 35-40 weekly freighter flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Estonia have caught the attention from Estonian Air.
The traffic is operated with Airbus A300 and A310 freighters from ULS Airlines Cargo, and after off-loading their shipments at Tallinn Airport the freighters either return to Istanbul or are re-positioned to other airports for ad-hoc charter operations.
-The traffic by ULS at Tallinn Airport brings in a huge cargo capacity that might in part be utilized by Estonian Air, says Toomas Orukivi, Estonian Air head of cargo.
-We are currently talking to freight forwarders in Estonia to monitor if there is a market for airfreight export to Turkey, and with other airline partners we might set up cargo traffic lanes from Istanbul to other destinations world-wide as required by the market.
-If successful in these talks, we will come forward with concrete offerings based on cooperation with ULS and other airlines as needed, says Mr Orukivi.
