Apr 19, 2012 (newstodate): Rather unnoticed, Estonia's Tallinn Airport is seeing highly frequent freighter operations contributing heavily to the airport's monthly cargo statistics.
Of the total of 1,786 tonnes of air cargo handled at the airport in March 2012, some 400 tonnes are transported by integrators DHL and UPS, another around 100 tonnes are carried on legacy carrier - but two-thirds of the volume are carried by Airbus A300 and A310 freighters from the Turkish cargo carrier ULS Airlines Cargo.
The import shipments on ULS' freighters are Turkish commodities and products destined for the Russian market and transported on ULS trucks from Tallinn to their end destinations.
ULS operates 35-40 monthly freighters from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Tallinn Airport, and offers cargo charter service from Tallinn to utilize the space available on the return trips from the airport.
ULS Airlines Cargo, formerly Kuzu Airlines Cargo, operates a fleet of three Airbus A300B4F and three Airbus A310-300F freighters.
