Apr 23, 2012 (newstodate): The EU Commission will send specialists to Russia to ascertain the the status of the carrier's technical capability to operate flights into EU countries.
In November 2011, an inspection of VIM Avia aircraft at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport revealed deficiencies in the carrier's technical organization which caused the abrogation of a contract with UN for VIM Avia to carry peacekeeping forces.
While VIM Avia was not entered into the EU Airline Black List, the carrier was given April 1, 2012, as deadline for correcting the safety problems.
VIM Avia has, however, not yet been granted full license to operate into the EU, pending the findings of a renewed EU Commission audit.
The case is rather surprising as VIM Avia operates a modern fleet comprising 11 Boeing 757-200, with orders for delivery of 15 Boeing 737-900ER and 10 TU-204 aircraft.
