Apr 19, 2012 (newstodate): Plans are maturing for construction of a new green-field airport in Romania.
The privately-owned airport will be located at Adunatii Copaceni, in the country's southern region, and south of Bucharest.
Behind the plans is a Romanian investment company Infra Group, and Lufthansa Consulting will reportedly provide the project with investment consulting services.
When built, the airport would seek international operators among low-cost carriers that are today being handled at Bucharest Baneasa Airport.
Estimates are that once all pertinent permits are landed, the project may be completed within the framework of 18 months and designed to serve type C aircraft including Airbus A320 Family and Boeing 737NG aircraft.
If plans are realized, the Adunatii Copaceni aiport will be the first new Romanian airport built in the last 20 years, and the country's first privately-owned airport.
