Silver Airways, based at Fort Lauderdale, has purchased six SAAB 340 aircraft from SAAB Aircraft Leasing, planning to allocate them to serving routes between Florida and Bahamas.
The carrier received the first SAAB 340B in November 2011, with the final delivery scheduled for May 2012.
The SAAB 340 first flew on January 25, 1983, and production stopped in 1999.
More than 400 aircraft are still in commercial and military operation around the world.
