Apr 10, 2012 (newstodate): Latvia's airBaltic emerged from 2011 with cargo volumes roughly the same as in the preceding year.
A total of 8,610 tonnes of cargo was carried by the airline, split evenly between air cargo and mail.
-While air cargo volumes slided somewhat, we are seeing mail volumes increasing thanks to a growing number of longer-term contracts with global mail companies, says Toms Andersson, airBaltic Head of cargo.
-2011 was indeed a challenging year also for airBaltic that saw changes in the route network, temporary irregularities in air traffic and other turbulence in the aviation scene.
-Looking forward, we are seeing increasing export volumes from Latvian producers of pharmaceuticals to markets including countries in the CIS region, but we do not foresee major increases in total volumes in 2012, says Mr Andersson.
