Apr 26, 2012 (newstodate): Ruslan has completed a large uplift mission between Japan and Sudan.
No less than 15 AN-124 Ruslan flights were needed to carry shipments for the Japanese peace keeping contingent of the United Nations Mission in Sudan, UNMIS.
The 15 flights, each covering 13,000 km from Narita and Chitose in Japan to Entebbe, Uganda, carried non-combat vehicles, containerised freight, power generators, communication equipment and other supplies for the Japan Ground Self Defense Force.
On arrival in Uganda, the cargo was transferred to the JGSDF in southern Sudan using a combination of smaller aircraft and road transport.
Ruslan International was set up in July 2006 as a joint venture of Antonov Airlines and Volga-Dnepr Airlines, to provide marketing of both airlines' total of 17 An-124 aircraft with the aim of optimizing their utilization.
