Apr 11, 2012 (newstodate): FedEx has announced its acquisition of the Polish courier company Opek.
With the acquisition, FedEx is further strengthening its European presence in light of UPS' recent acquisition of TNT that also aims at securing the hold on the European market.
Opek operates 44 stations in Poland manned by 1,200 staff and employing 1,300 contracted hauliers.
In the Nordic context, FedEx has also restructured its entire Nordic set-up in 2012, changing from the A300 freighter into Copenhagen and Sweden to Boeing 757-200F flights from Paris via Amsterdam to Oslo, from Paris to Copenhagen, and from Paris to Stockholm continuing to Helsinki.
