Apr 12, 2012 (newstodate): Estonian Air is determined to see its passenger volumes setting new records in 2012.
The goal, stated in the carrier's latest release on its performance in 2011 and expectations for this year, is to grow the passenger volume in 2012 to 800,000 which would be 25 percent over last year's performance of 670,029 passengers.
In 2011, the passenger volume thus increased by 16.4 percent, y-o-y, bit the airline still did not manage to bring its economy back into the black.
In 2011, the consolidated sales revenue of Estonian Air grew by 12 percent, to 76.1 million euros. But the financial result was a loss of 17.3 million euros, of which non-recurring expenses formed 1.8 million euros.
Up against high fuel prices, the carrier pins its hopes on the new management's ability to reach the targets in the ongoing turn-around strategy as well as the benefits from a new and growing fleet of fuel-efficient Embraer aircraft, new destinations and higher frequencies on key European routes to and from Tallinn Airport.
