Apr 02, 2012 (newstodate): In 2011, Estonian Air carried a total of 977 tonnes of cargo and mail.
This was an increase by 3.3 percent, y-o-y, in volumes - but revenue from the cargo business remained unchanged around 1.2-1.3 percent of the carrier's total revenues.
To capitalize on the cargo business and generate more revenue for the airline, Estonian Air is to launch a new express air cargo product from the start of April 2012.
Due to the restrictions on weight and dimensions set by the new regional jet aircraft fleet, the express product will apply to shipments up to 500 kg with limits on dimensions, and it will initially be introduced on the carrier's high-frequency flights from Tallinn to Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo before being rolled out to cover the entire Estonian Air route network.
