Apr 19, 2012 (newstodate): Bombardier may be on its way to launch a new customer in Russia.
The Yakutsk-based Russian carrier Yakutia Airlines is eying the Bombardier Dash-8 Q400 aircraft as a future replacement of its current fleet of 11 AN-24 turboprop aircraft used on its regional network.
The carrier plans to put the Q400 aircraft to the test during winter 2012, and after evaluation of the results an order may be signed, sources say.
So far, the parties have signed a Letter of Intent.
Bombardier is currently under certification of the aircraft by the Russian authorities, and pending the outcome of this process expected to be completed within few weeks, Saratov Airlines may sign a leasing agreement for delivery of three Bombardier Q400 aircraft marking the entry of the aircraft into Russia's large regional aviation business where ATR has so far managed to gain a foothold as the only western provider.
Bombardier has earlier estimated the sale potentials to comprise some 50 of these aircraft in Russia soon after certification.
