Apr 13, 2012 (newstodate): A controversy is delaying the long-planned modernization and development of Belarussia's Minsk Airport.
In the plans are construction of a new passenger terminal and a second runway, and design works are well-advanced on both projects.
The Belarus government intended to secure the financing of the projects with Chinese loans and investments, but the two parties are currently at odds over prices and budgets and the issue has been raised to inter-governmental levels.
Minsk Airport, opened in 1982, currently has one 3,641m runway and the second runway designed to allow for traffic with airport up to the size of the Airbus A380 is slated for completion by 2017.
Minsk Airport also operates a cargo terminal with capacity of handling up to 150 tonnes of shipments per day.
